Hi everyone,

summer is in full swing and while everyone is on vacation, we're putting together the details on our 040x040 picnic. I am very much looking forward to having y'all in Hamburg, September 3–4. Here's everything you need to know for now. And if you should have any further questions, hit me up or ping my colleague Jessica. She speaks Swedish, too :)

Where to stay

💡
One thing first: Hamburg hosts SMM, a big maritime trade fair, from 1–4 September, right when we're in town. Hotels will be busier and pricier than usual, so we'd recommend booking sooner rather than later. Here are three solid options:

Superbude St. Pauli (our pick for value) Juliusstraße 1–7, 22769 Hamburg · ~140 €/night. Great location in the Schanze quarter, fun, well-run design hostel with private rooms. No frills, but everything you need. superbude.com

Motel One am Michel (the reliable choice, great location) Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 26, 20459 Hamburg · ~240 €/night Classic Motel One: clean, consistent, decent design for the price. Right by St. Michael's Church, one of Hamburgs landmarks, walking distance to the harbour and St. Pauli. motel-one.com

Prize by Radisson Hamburg St. Pauli — Reeperbahn 154 · ~190 €/night. Clean, modern rooms right on the Reeperbahn, more polished than the budget options- but on Reeperbahn. radissonhotels.com

Getting here

🚂 By train
My preferred mode of travel. Please note: not all connections between Copenhagen and Hamburg are currently direct due to construction work on the line. Check your connection at bahn.de.

⛴️ By car + ferry
Car & the Rødby–Puttgarden ferry is a solid alternative: door-to-door flexibility and a nice break on the water. And if you're driving anyway: consider carpooling with other 040x040 folks. It's more fun, it's cheaper, and you get to know each other before you even arrive.

🚲 Bikes
We'll provide bikes for everyone on Friday morning. If you're bringing your own or your hotel offers free bike rental, just let us know so we can adjust the count.

Welcome Dinner

040x040 comes with mingling and good food. We'll share the location (👀 somewhere in central Hamburg) soon!
Save the date: Thursday, 3 September – 18:30.

Sneak Preview Friday, 4 September

Usch- exciting! We'll kick off at 8:30 am with check-in at SPACE by nextMedia.Hamburg, meet a few startups and other nice folks, grab breakfast kindly presented by nextMedia.Hamburg, ease into the day. Then we swing onto bikes and cross the city: through Oberhafen, past the Kreativquartier and the to-be-transformed iconic Gruner + Jahr building, into the foodlab and up to the St. Pauli Bunker & Hilldegarden.

Along the way we'll dig into quite a few themes: cooperative models, how to transform inner-city education, the idea of sociotecture– and what happens when you turn a parking garage into living space. We're working out the full schedule as I type. Trust the 040x040 community, this will be sweet. Full programme follows closer to the date.

That's it for now. In the meantime– any questions, just shout. Enjoy summer & stay tuned for more updates in the next weeks.
